The Global Friday Speaker Dr. John Paul Catungal  has been writing about the Philippine Migration to Canada for many years, but his presentation today was focused on the sites and sounds of Philippine. Dr. John Paul explains how the Miss universe pageant can promote tourism and community inclusion in the Nation of Philippine. According to Dr. John Paul, Miss Universe pageant was held in Philippine in 1974, 1994 and 2017 and possibly in 2019, He believe that it is the perfect time to bring the pageant back to what is now the Asian’s fastest growing economy. The Miss Universe pageant has opened the Nation of Philippine to the world and expanded their tourism industry and their economy.

The video clips that was shown during the presentation were very interesting, the first was an advert on tourism in Philippine featuring Jack Ellis as a tourist in the nation and how he was welcomed by the people which made him to feel at home even when he was thousands of miles away from home. The advertisement was showcasing the beautiful Geographical sites of Philippine and the culture of the people. The second video as a documentary on how the Canadian Coffee giant Tim hortons opened their first business in Philippine. The documentary shows how the establishment of Tim hortons in the Philippine reunited families which have not seen each other for many years. Most of the families in the documentary left Philippine to live in Canada so many years ago and never returned home, but Tim hortons made that possible.

The presentation was detailed with years of research and data collection in the areas of tourism and migration of the people of Philippine to Canada, which Dr. John Paul referred to as labor migration. The question which I would have ask Dr. John Paul was on how the Philippine migrates in Canada are welcomed.
